The fables: 1.
THE ASS AND THE LION HUNTING TOGETHER - 2. THE NORTH WIND AND THE SUN
Aesop's Fables.
1. “THE ASS AND THE LION HUNTING TOGETHER“
An Ass and a Lion entered into an alliance so that they might go hunting
together. When they arrived at a cave full of wild goats, the lion stopped
before the entry in order to seize each of them when they were going
out, the ass instead entered the cave and braying as loud as he could
he scared them .
After the Lion had caught all of them, the Ass went out and asked him
if he had not proved to be a gallant warrior in the goats' hunt.
-“You see”- answered the Lion - “even
I would be afraid of you hadn't I known you were an ass!”
If you bluster when there is somebody who knows you well, you will be
made a fool of yourself.
2. “THE NORTH WIND AND THE SUN“
The North Wind, a cold and violent wind, and the Sun disputed as to
which was the most powerful. One day they agreed that he should be declared
the victor who could first strip a wayfarer of his clothes. The North
Wind started to blow with all his might, but the man, tormented by the
incredible biting cold, as the wind blew stronger and stronger, not
only kept his clothes well tight to him, but wrapped also his cloak
around him, until at last, completely tired out, the Wind called upon
the Sun to see what he could do. The Sun at first shone temperately,
not excessively; then when the man took off his cloak suddenly shone
out with all his warmth. The wayfarer, unable to stand the heat any
longer, stripped from head to foot and undressed went to bathe in a
stream that lay close to him.
This fable teach us that Persuasion is better than Force.
